ABSOLUTELY FULL OF BAD CAMPAIGNERS. MORE RIDGEONS BANTER THAN YOU CAN SHAKE A WIVENHOE TOWN SCARF AT. IF YOU WANNA GO OUT ON A SATURDAY NIGHT AND TALK ABOUT HOW YOU WERE UNLUCKY TO GET A 1-1 DRAW WITH DEREHAM AWAY...THIS IS YOUR PLACE.

Nobody in their right mind likes chain bars like this.
PubMessenger - 30 Mar 2009 10:20
They seriously need to sort out quite a few things in this place: the amount of time it takes to serve food at lunchtimes to people who have to have eaten and be back at work within the hour, the repulsive state of the toilets on any Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening, the 2 charge on the door, the dreadful attitude of the bouncers if you try to get in at one second past whatever time they've decided to stop letting people in even tho the licence is usually for another whole hour, leaving your night sharply chopped off at 1am, thanks a lot! Complete rubbish I'd rather stay at home than spend a single second in here.

its like a nursery on weekends! and it looks like an airport
iknowbest - 30 Jun 2008 10:28
Oh Dear Its Only Pub of the Day Again. Auuuu
anonymous - 8 Mar 2008 10:22
Wow what a great place. Day time great food and service and at night some great DJs (must have changed them) and great drink deals. A nice night out with nice people.
Tyson1973 - 7 Sep 2007 00:12
Not the bar it used to be, and its mainly because of the sheeiittee DJ there on tuesdays and saturdays. He plays the same sets week after week and never plays what you ask him!
I've been livin down here for 4 years now and this used to be the place to be but its in need of a brighten up big style. Bouncers still the best in town unlike that lot down the road in yates! Bar staff friendly but sometimes takes ages to get served.
GET RID OF THE DJ!!!!!
KentBoyz - 12 Sep 2006 16:48
fantastic bar the young bloke chris is no 2
anonymous - 5 Jun 2006 17:00
Is quite good but do agree about the music - was in there last friday and was pretty dire. Was crammed though so pretty difficult to dance anyway. At least the loos are clean-ish!!
jojo85 - 2 May 2006 13:58
oh dear, went back to eds for hopefully a decent night out..how dissapointed. the music is just shit now..proper commercial garbage, with no atmostphere. this used to be the best bar in town..how things have changed..don't even bother...
fletchers - 5 Apr 2006 06:55
what on earth has happened to this bar.havnt been since before xmas, went in last weekend & couldnt believe it. it used to be the nuts, the music was excellent. the music was so bad last week id rather have stayed in & watched mtv. whats the bongo player all about, far to loud & not in time with the music.good thing was it was easy to get served cause there was no one at the bar..only stayed half an hour,no atmosphere.
fletchers - 5 Feb 2006 13:38
What a fantastic place.
My partner, his friends, my family all went here christmas eve and it was so good we returned New years eve also.

Atmosphere was great, bouncers spot on,very polite and professional, Even though it was busy it did not take too long to get served at the bar, evryone having a good time I poke to and no trouble!

If you want a good night out without all the usual trouble you get in colchester pubs then you could do much worse than to visit this place
anonymous - 13 Jan 2006 15:28
Fantastic place always loadsa fit women!!! Never known a nicer bunch of doormen so whoever said they are thugs having a laugh. Always have a larf with them on the front door when theres a queue.
Short pointy bird behind bar got some attitude on her but wicked fun place. drinks too expensive but got some good offers. lots of squaddies there weekdays though
BarryGeee - 19 Oct 2005 18:42
Sadly, this seems to be the place to go in Colchester. Can't fault the staff. Bouncers and bar are both spot on. The decor is desprately trying to make this place something it's not though and the music is always completely soulless and uninspiring. But the sad fact remains that unless you can handle Chicago's (shudder) or the Hippo this is probably your only late night weekend refuge.
Garth - 25 May 2005 17:18
this place bites, full of posers always packed out and you have to pay to get in! it's a freakin' pub! what's all that about!
rico - 29 Apr 2005 15:04
+ : Great interior design
Cool little dance area
Cheap drink deals on weekdays
Good place to meet other people as so many people seem to go there
Rarely any squaddies

- : You'll get a lot of people full of attitude
Have to pay to get in some days
Can get packed...not somewhere to go for a quiet drink in the weekends
jelee_uk - 18 Apr 2005 17:11
Have to say I am not a great fan of this place.
To set the record straight on the bouncers, half of them are Ok, the other half are a bunch of thugs looking for a ruck (especially Beppe) although that will hopefully change now its under new management.
Barstaff are quality with a capital Q and do a great job dealing with the eclectic mix of fit young girls, lary wide-boys and hard-as-nails faces. It does take ages to get served but thats cause its so busy. Music is fairly average chart stuff. Prices are far too high for an Edwards bar. Interior is pretty cool.

Overall, always going to get a visit as every bugger in town seems to go there at some point in their evening. Very over-hyped though and not half as good as it thinks it is.

Used to go to this pub on a Sunday for the breakfast, they do a really good vegaterian breakfast. Until i discovered on one occassion bacon in the baked beans ... then the breakfasts took 1 hour to arrive ( the pub was quiet) on the next visit ... and on my last visit the teo non-veggie breakfasts turn up ( order cocked up) ... one was taken away to be replaced by another veggie breakfast ( took 15 minutes) and eggs were under cooked.

The biggest issues was that i really used to enjoy going to edwards and the fact they managed to muck it up so many times in a row means that i just go else where ... a real shame ... will still go in for a drink though

Had a birthday party in here last saturday and the staff were great apart from the short grumpy dark haired girl behind the bar!!
The bouncers on the way in were a bit strict looking in our handbags but polite enough.
Would definately come back again.

ellina d - [email protected] - 10 Nov 2004 12:12
Great tunes, couple of nice looking barmaids and the bouncers Ive always found quite cool.
Too busy though and can have big queues so get in early!
Rich - 29 Oct 2004 15:35
I'd ssay the opposite... thought they had the most polite and decent bouncers in the whole town! Those that have complained have probably been kicked out! lol
Great atmosphere, great music and a sensible dress code, although I have to agree its too popular, takes ages queing although the bouncers usually have a laugh with you when you reach the front.
Gary Iffens - 29 Oct 2004 15:33
Neil,

Please feel free to call the site and explain your problems encountered, I have no knowledge of any complaint and we have the best door staff in the area......
anonymous - 30 Sep 2004 22:44
good bar staff poor bouncers and very rude manager - if you can ignore that then ok place to go.
neil - 29 Sep 2004 16:41
Used to be the place to go, but now to busy in the evenings.Food is good, and its the best place to knock back a bottle of red on a saturday afternoon.
Wade - 31 Aug 2004 12:43
Better looking staff and punters than most, nice interior.A victim of its own success as it takes ages to get in,and getting a drink takes FOREVER.Check it out in the day, nice food
Chip Rhys - 12 Aug 2004 14:07
Totally unreasonably bouncers, but OK inside for Colchester, if you like watching Essex boys get drunk and loud. Not somewhere to take your mother.
Luke - 22 Jul 2004 14:50
oi no dissing our bar its top class! and we always give the best service!
sam and crackers - [email protected] - 3 Feb 2004 14:42
We had a wicked night in Edwards, plenty of cool guys here ladies. Even the bouncers are good looking! Staff friendly even when I dropped and smashed my drinks all over the floor!! (sorry guys). Will definately be here again next time in Colchester
Elaine Dainport - 3 Dec 2003 09:29
Wicked night out. Colchesters needed a bar of this quality for ages. Great music, friendly people. Security's tight but fair, better class of customers than Yates & Hippodrome!
Richie King - 29 Oct 2003 12:46
Dont know what the last comment was all about (maybe she got thrown out!!) this bar rocks! Interior looks MUCH posher than any of the local bars, live DJ's & friendly staff. only down side is its too popular hence queues to get in most weekends.
Caroline Maar - 29 Oct 2003 12:44
horrible place, dreadful interior and absolutely no atmosphere whatsoever. This sort of place gives 'trendy bars' a bad name.
Carrie - 16 Oct 2003 17:06
Great night out. Love the people who work there (especially the dish on the front door..Beppe himself)
Stacey K - 1 Aug 2003 16:41
very trendy and new with a good range of beers but very busy with a long queue to the bar at the weekends
michael carpenter - 26 Jul 2003 17:35
This pub is trying too hard to be 'London like', being full up with wannabe extras for Footballers wives. Many of the attitudes come free with the fake Luis Vuitton bags that are seen here on a typical Friday night.
PC - 23 Jun 2003 22:47
To all the girls, do not over pack your bag as they search you every time!!!
Carmen - 20 Jun 2003 17:02
I love the good looking trendy blokes in Edwards!!They all seem to have a David Beckham look going on!!It's great on a Saturday night!!
Carly Lucas - 19 Jun 2003 17:30
nice place, pricey though. popular with the squaddie bastar#s, but nevertheless a good place to start or end a nite out. be prepared to queue to get in, and wait for ages to get to the bar!
Jon 'Rudders' Rudling - [email protected] - 12 May 2003 01:19
Fairly new pub in Colchester so it gets packed in the evening loads of comfy chairs and sofa though. The only problem is the toilets last time we went in they appeared to some kind of green mould in them.
