Haven't been in here for some time (several years). Visited Friday night with a couple of friends. About 20 people in and we got a funny look when we walked in. Barmaid very inattentive. Not very welcoming especially as it was a Friday night and not very busy - barman had mobile phone constantly clamped to his ear. No real ale had to make do with Boddingtons (which wasn't too bad at £2 pint) Karaoke night. As prospective new customers we should have been welcomed a little better.- very cliquey pub. Think very carefully before coming here again

Not so bad since its refit -- still no real ale so make do with Boddingtons on keg. Dj and Karaoke which was entertaining - one or two quite good singers really.

Have been here twice in the past 12 months, both times on a Saturday night (the second occasion only for about 30 minutes). And it was the sort of place Son of Odin is wise to avoid. There was loud crap reggae, loads of tarty daughters out with their tarty mothers and blokes playing pool or the boxing machine (a sort of electronic punch bag). They were prabably getting ready for the 3am free-for-all. I think you get the picture.

My taxi took me past here well after midnight last Saturday, and what I saw will probably explain why I've never been brave enough to venture inside despite the fact that it is probably the 4th nearest pub (and less than 15 minutes walk) from my place. As the taxi got within 200 yards I could see a blue flashing light, when it got closer, there were loads of police cars, an ambulance, the sound of barking police dogs and all of the customers hanging around outside. Needless to say, I'll continue to give this place a wide berth.

Scary looking place. Go past it regularly. Looks to be the sort of place that shows Deal or no Deal on the big screen.

I know someone who has moved into the area, and we hope to go and see a few bands at this place in the next few weeks. I hope it isn't as bad as the previous posters have made out...................

I dont think the owners understand how much the locals HATE them. Apart from a pub to go to the place is awful, why has that man got make up on and why does he wear a bum bag? a hankerchief over his head ... is he hiding something ha! The women .... o god is there any need for a oap with a boob job?? feel sorry for her kids and gran kids. Morrocan night? yum!!! With there own rules and there disgusting attitude its a suprise they have any custom but as this was always a LOCAL pub then the locals will still stay ... but you will see them elsewhere when the owners mad antics get to them. Be warned ... one false move and YOUR BARRED!!! see ya.

i am the owner of the pub! i dont like being slated about somethink that is not true! we have worked hard to bring back a locals pub....with entertainment etc.no of us are perfect......and yes we closed the gates for a reason! we also have been working alongside the local police in order to stop the crime etc in the area.....we now close on thur, frid and sat eves at 11.30-well last orders is 11.15 and no more drinks after 11.30 that then allows customers to be vacated by 12.....keeping the noise level down,
we have tried very hard to please but we cant please everyone all the time.
if you have a problem please feel free to call in and see me not write comments that are untrue and vicious! bye foe now.....j j

I have been to this pub with my boyfriend for over 4 years now, always enjoyed it! The disco on a friday and Karioke on Thursday used to be great .. until the new management took over late last year - what a shame!! Trying to turn it into the shoes up the road! Reputation really went down. Glad i wasnt there at the time to see it happen, but now she's left its EVEN worse - i never thought it could happen! Girls are bored out there brains and never anything to do! Feel sorry for them! Luckily the locals are still ftiendly - this is a local pub remember and a working mans pub so dont expect a red carpet!!

Regards

I was driving past this place a few weekends ago and there was "surprise surprise" a fight spilling out onto the street at about 10.30 pm. Loads of young lads and screaming girls. I used to come to the Hib a few years ago quite frequently when I lived in Selly Oak as it was a mates local and it was good craic. Good for watching rugby and footie and that and a good mix of clientelle. I went in a few months ago when I was having my car valeted round the corner and it was dire. It was dirty and looked really neglected - as did some of the dudes in there. We walked out after about 30 seconds. Shame

Have not looked at the comments on this pub recently, however you can tell I disliked from my previos comment.I saw DRAHCIRSKIs comment and thought ill give another go. Yesterday me and 2 mates went here to play pool and have sum pub grub, and a group of chavs started fighting amongst themselves. And its exactly like berol describes below, the manager watching helplessly on and the staff just couldnt stop them. Staff seemed friendlir than previous visits.

i have never been to such a hell hole in my life...Its full of bagheads. One particular family in general who claim they own the pub how funny. The mom and son get so drunk they are falling all over the place.. they are an embarrassment. people sniffing and shooting up in the loos. getting sick all over the place. having sex in the loos. Ever a member of the staff has been renowned for occasionally giving the odd bj during her break.. Some of the galz that work there a absolutely lovely... shame they have to degrade themselves by working there in the first place.Get out girls...the old manager.. he is a joke... the new manager.. even worse... i have seen so many fights. i was there just a couple of wks ago when it kicked off in the venue for the managers joint bday party.. chairs being thrown all over theplace. i feel sorry for the girls behind the bar...the manager too out of it to do anything about it. she should loose her license. shut the place down i say. the footy hooligans are the worse. glasses of full beer being thrown across the pub... abusive chanting. blood fights. its always been associated with RIFRAF stirchly scum and always will. Il never go there again...

Been here to see a band who have just informed me that all gigs planned are now cancelled due to a change of management...... Dunno if its the change the last poster means or another change again.

Its amazing what new management can do, i remember the last time i went here, i hated it, most of the staff was ignorant, and management just wanted to shut early as possible.

But under new management now, i went there last night (saturday) while it was a little quiet, it was also enjoyable, every member of staff i spoke to was nice and welcoming, there was also off duty staff there (drinking) who sat down and talked to us, overall, the staff made the place feel like a very nice place to drink.

But obviously, the most important thing, the drinks, was cheap and tasted a lot better than most pubs ive been to in a long time.

my hat goes off to the lovely ladies behind the bar who do make this pub feel welcoming once again.

-rich.

I like the fact the beer is cheap but this pub is a joke, not only does the Manager close the bar when he chooses so does the stuck up assistant manager, who speaks to customers and fellow employees as if they are scum, I was in there at 10.50 on Sunday, waiting at the bar as last orders is 11, there clock is fast and it did say 10.56.( it was definately 10 to 11 ) The barmaid said be with you in a second, and the next thing i know the assistant manager is closing the bar so he can pour himself a pint, he said its now gone 11. I said i was at the bar b4 11, and the barmaid agreed with me. He then dismissed her and still refused to serve me. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PUB THEN MAYBE IT WILL HAVE TO IMPROVE

used to be the assistant manager here in 2002-2003, had a great time. just a shame things have gone downhill. it was a lively, friendly pub with lots to recommend -not least the great crowd of regulars and wonderful gigs out the back, fantastic atmosphere!!hope it gets back to how it should be.

O.M.G Enter at you peril, a graveyard has more life. BEWARE THE MANAGER SHUTS THE BAR WHEN HE CHOOSES-Quite surprised that this pub has ebded up the way it has as it used to be a very nice pub that was clean and run well. The Hibernian was always busy. Shame to see it so run down and empty

This pub used to be one with a friendly environment, where people could go to have a laugh and chill out, while having a drink.
Whats happened to the pub we know?
The only decent nights are Fridays(when theres a disco) and Sundays, (when theres a pub quiz). Please bear in mind these are decent nights, but the people who asssociate themselves with the pub are not decent at all. It can kick off at any time, mainly due to young drinkers looking for a fight, and always seems to have an edgy atmosphere. With no bouncers that stand on the door, the trouble can erupt at any point.
The bar staff try their best at all times, but with their manager not being around that often, they are pretty clueless on how to run a pub. The cleanliness and health and safety of the pub is dire. Tables that are broken, chairs that are loose, spillages on the floor, litter everywhere you look, and ashtrays overspilling with cigarette butts are just a few to name . The whole pub needs an overhaul, or maybe being knocked down all together. If I would give any advice on the matter, it would be to go to the pub up the road.
