The Bay Horse, Ashton In Makerfield

Part of the Flaming Grill chain. Much as I am ambivalent to chain pubs, I have to say the 10oz sizzling steaks are excellent! I go every month or so for a steak, and usually get offers on via the website/facebook group. Drinks a bit overpriced, and VERY busy during Haydock race meetings!

The Harrow Inn, Ashton in Makerfield

Nice 'proper' country pub with no pretentions; i.e. it's not titled "The Inn @ Harrow" or some such! Location within a bit of a green belt between Golborne and Ashton.
Good basic menu of obviously mostly home made food with regular specials.
