The Sandrock, Boundstone

Came in search of good food and was not disappointed. Reassuringly slim menu as all food cooked fresh on the premises. sumptious prawn cocktail followed by delightful wellingtons (beef for myself, vegetarian version for my partner). A shame (and surprise) that the place was almost deserted at 9.30pm on a Saturday evening. Will try sunday lunch and real ales next time.

The Chequers Inn, Well

I've been visiting the Chequers for the past year and a half since moving into the area--and it's a delight. The old parts of the interior date back to 1542, there's a great fire on winter evenings, the Sunday lunch is always good (and reasonably priced compared to other commentees), and though no beer expert I reckon the Badger and Thirsty Ferret are as good as any of the local Hampshire/Surrey offerings. And dog-friendly too with the chance to meet pub dog Stanley if you make it out into the back garden. Just feels like a classic old English pub to me, and I'll keep going back.
