The Retreat, Reading

When the barman/landlord takes up a whole table for his laptop thus leaving just 3 tables for the punters in the front bar (all taken when I was there), it's apparent how important the customer is in this pub! The quality of the ale is great but you do pay thru' the nose for it & as we were left with only the choice of the forgotten void that constitutes the back bar, or the single bench outside facing the road, one round was more than enough. Will not be rushing back.

Really enjoyed our visit again at the end of our pub crawl & the ale was excellent as ever.

The Jolly Anglers, Reading

For the 3rd consecutive year we started our pub crawl of Reading here as we've yet to be disappointed by the beer & it's a proper pub. Liked the new beer garden & the new management & as they were having a beer festival we were forced to stay for a 2nd as the choice was so good. Tried the food for the first time & the scampi was excellent as was the homemade tartare sauce.
