The Ramblers Rest, Chipstead

Visited this pub a couple of times in the past two weeks and I can confirm that the service is really appalling......and I was only waiting to get a beer. The staff tend to look at you in wonderment not realising that you may want serving. Most of their energies concentrate on those customers ordering food...........it becomes apparent why they spend so long on food orders as they have no plan in place i.e. table numbering or the like and by the time punters get their food it is cold! After wandering aimless around the patio area looking for the poor hungry folk who ordered burger and chips the waitress obviously got bored with carrying both burgers AND chips that she duly dropped the pot of chips on the floor, so not only did the hapless fool who ordered food get served with a cold burger they also had no chips - what a shambles.

Avoid and seek out a proper pub.

The Fox on the Hill, Lower Kingswood

When under previous ownership I could not write anything positive as it fell well short on the basic requirements of a public house......you could not guarantee to be served draught beer. It is now open under new management and it has been transformed. There is no problem with the draught beer as they have a very good pint of Doom Bar or for you lager lovers...Amstel.

I would STRONGLY recommend that when paying a visit you sample the best Indian food in the area. Wednesday is Thali night which is good value at less than 10 a head. From the main menu we had the fish curry and Railway Lamb Curry and both were exquisite. This is a regular thing for us now.

Although the food is excellent they have no right to class this as a drinking establishment.

Having visited once again in order to take advantage of the excellent Indian takeaway food I did carry the vaguest hope that things may have improved with regards the pub element of the business....................I was informed without any form of apology or embarrasment that there were no draught lagers available as they were still experiencing problems................hello how difficult can it be to provide draught lager in a public house.
