The Lower Buck Inn, Waddington

We ate at the Lower Buck 2 weeks ago for a joint birthday celebration. We had booked our table for 7pm and sat down shortly after. The pub was quite noisy at this time with a number of groups of quite drunk people which mildly irritated us. We ordered at about 7.10pm, ordering 2 pies and a mixed grill amongst other things. To our amazement the food was not presented to our table 45 minutes later so I enquired about its whereabouts at the bar and was told that the mixed grill took 30 minutes to cook and the food would be out shortly. At no time prior to this did anyone advise us of the long waiting time. Just after 8pm the food was served. The pies were both very dry, especially the meat on the outside, and the pastry was so dry that I could not eat the crust. We drew the staff's attention to our waiting time and the quality of the food but the man who i presumed was the landlord came with a full bill! We explained to him why we weren't happy and he was extremely obnoxious. He disagreed that it had taken an hour from us sitting down to getting the food and rather aggressively said that he wasn't going to argue with us with a pub full of customers and that "he would agree to disagree", and somewhat reluctantly agreed to let us pay what we thought appropriate. It is my firm belief that if someone charges you �9.95 for a pie it should be significantly better than anything you can produce yourself and that a simple apology is far more appropriate than vague attempts to defend what is clearly mediocre food. I will most certainly never be returning to this pub and would strongly recommended to anyone with any standards of taste not to frequent this establishment.
