The Northgate, Islington

This is really nice. The staff are always delightful, which makes a real change. The food is great, sometimes the portions can be a bit less than you might expect, but the quality over the several times I have eaten here is consistently great. I have had the best salmon I have ever had in this country , here. Beers - Staropramen, Landlod, Addlestones, and changing ones, all good.

Kings Head, Crouch End

I've stopped going here. The staff are bad enough, and now they've made it look like everywhere else as if it was too distinctive or something. The food has started appearing on pretentious chopping boards instead of plates and suddenly the food isn't such good value anyway- the steak has gone up by 50%.
The staff are a mystery - I don't understand why people are employed when they clearly hate serving others. Wordless and surly best sums most of them up.
I thought I'd found somewhere to go in Crouch End at last, but the refit has sucked out one of the good bits about it, the quirky decor. I'll be finding somewhere else.
