The restaurant will not admit children under the age of fourteen. I discovered this when I rang to book a table for Sunday lunch for four adults and their four extremely civilised children aged 9-13. It seems thoroughly unpleasant to me, excluding families. What is it with this dislike of young people? Do we want to pretend they don't exist, or is it the idea to make them feel like pariahs and drive them into developing bad behaviour in order to fulfill these expectations? Were we not all under 14 once?
