The Ranelagh, Bounds Green

Dear Anonymous
You left out The Ranelagh's major redeeming feature (of so many) - I now go there regularly, and I'm very much a local! What's your prob with good food, very drinkable wine at reasonable prices, friendly staff who ALL speak English - mostly 'cos it's their first language and, of those who aren't natives, interesting accents being accompanied by enthusiasm and willingness to please? Flies? Maybe it's you they're after - I've never seen any there.
As for smokers being squashed into a corner (which is actually half the pub), well - boo-hoo. I'll go there with my smoking mates, but admit that I've got sore eyes and a sore throat after a couple of hours. Even in the non-smoking bit the bad effects seep across after a while. Sorry for you smokers, I used to be one myself, but get with the program. Much as I agree with you about your right to kill yourself, I really don't want you to take me with you. The Ranelagh is doing it's best to please us all and the non-smoking bit is just as full as the smoke pit.
The food has had it's dodgy moments but is much improved.
My only criticism at the mo is that they tend to put the (not bad) music on too loud, when the clientele are obviously locals who have gone for a drink/nosh/natter, not teenies out clubbing. Tone it down a bit and the place is my idea of a perfect local. (And bring back Quiz Night and all the other sillinesses they used to do for a laugh, but with the comment about loud music taken on board).

I think the new Ranelagh has been the making of our neighbourhood - if you don't like it, go
somewhere else!
