The Blackfriars, Inverness

this historic pub has gone through a few bad years, but the current management of Del/Janette, or vice versa, is just what is needed. They have a range of excellent, well tended, mainly highland, ales. The food is excellent, mainly genuinely home cooked, within scent of the bar. There are a good range of staples, with a levening of scottish specialities, like smoked salmon, haggis (try the whisky sauce), blackpudding, and imaginative dishes of the day. There is usually music playing, Scottish,and C&W predominate. Live music (and country dancing sometimes) frequent, mainly at weekends in the early season, more frequently in high season. Not to be missed if in Inverness.
