The White Horse, Duns Tew
This is a great little english country pub in some ways, but lets itself down in others.
We stayed out the back for 1 night and the accommodation was excellent value for 50/double which we booked through late rooms (i think 70/double is their standard rate), breakfast was included and was again excellent and consisted of cereal, full english and coffee/tea.
The sad thing is, this place could be so much better! It has a great old world charm, but wasn't very warm inside (it was -3 overnight) though and customers seemed somewhat of an inconvenience to the publican! I think he's in the wrong game!
The staff were ok, nice enough but a bit morbid and not very friendly! They sgut the bar at 10:30pm when there were still 12 people wanting to drink!
The meal we had for dinner was fantastic, as mentioned before it was a bit pricey for a country pub but was above average by UK standards! Try the lamb's neck if it's on the specials board!
On the whole, this would be a good place for a group of friends to get away as the accommodation is good, just don't expect service with a smile!
With some hard work and friendly service, this place could be a great country weekend getaway.
