The Echo, Gravesend

Perhaps it was sitting outside on an idyllic early summer evening after a brisk cycle from the train station, but this pub really did it for us. Overlooking the amorphous suburban sprawl of Gravesend, the pub has a large outside seating area although the locals - a seemingly civilised bunch - seemed mostly to stick indoors. Admittedly, Gravesend isn't the most idyllic location but the view is leafy and pleasant enough with lots of birds to be seen and heard. The new owners have redecorated and 'improved' the pub in the past few months but they didn't seem to commit any especially heinous architectural crimes in the process. But best of all, it had a great couple of brews on tap along with a very tasty white wine. An especially handy spot if you're cycling or walking the Gravesend fitness route.
