The Victoria, Highgate

By all accounts the food is good, and the decor a potentially regrettable late-90s makeover-mixed with old traditional style, yet somehow working well and feeling nice and cosy - but the Sunday night singalong is really just unforgettable. And it goes on 'til 1am too. You have to make the trip along for one of these, it's lovely.

The beer is delicious, I had the best pint of Wandle ever here. It's so sad that you walk in on a Wednesday night and the place is empty though, but I suppose it is slightly off the beaten track, and inferior establishments like the Angel and the Prince of Wales are just better located I suppose. Highgate these days is more about the Tories/estate agents eating dinner with their kids up at the revamped Red Lion, but for a real taste of old North London, pop along to this gem.
