The Compass Inn, Winsor

Found this pub by chance and a lucky chance it was, good pub food, reasonably priced and served by pleasant staff in a very traditional (without tweeness) surroundings. Good selection of beers both "real Ale" and others. Our visit was so pleasant we diverted a few days later for another visit andthe beer was still as good and the food likewise.

The Flowing Spring, Playhatch

Well not a happy bunny, dont bother with this place if its food you want. We had Fish and Chips, chips were stale(reheated, yesterdays? as were the peas) and some tired looking green salad , what the fish was ie cod, haddock was not specified and foolishly I didnt ask but it was tasteless, and we waited 40 minutes to be served and there were only 5 people eating including my wife and I. The whole place could do with a good clean. And I had a strong feeling the staff knew the meal was substandard, no apology for the long wait. Good? The London ride was nice but it really should be. A very poor effort, someone took there eye off the ball and if this is the standard this couple wont last long in trade. I ask you Fish and chips easy peasy nmot rocket science.

The Bull, Sonning

A pub that seems to have lost its way-the usual gastric pub menu of "airmiles" stuff and a staff with little interest in proceedings. This place has expanded in area over the years and as a result whoever is in charge cant manage it. As it is practically all "passing trade" I dont suppose it matters but what a waste of position and location. I must say the coffee was good-most British pubs/restaurants fall down on this so perhaps put the coffee person in charge. A great shame and Im not happy posting this.
