The Sportsman 'Time Well Spent', Mogador

We went to this place after reading all the reviews on this site, merely out of intrigue more than anything. Lived in Epsom for 20 years and never even know this place existed. Only a stone throw away from the A217 you do really think that you are in the country side. It is tucked away at the end of a road with quite a large garden to the side and a fair bit of seating at the front. We went on a drizzly Saturday afternoon so outside was out of play but the inside was very delightful. A modern traditional pub with a real sense of professionalism service and standards. We were greeted, served promptly and felt welcome all very quickly without feeling bustled into anything. There were a couple of dogs in the bar area which were well behaved and very middle class, which added to the country pub feel. It has been overhauled (apparently) in the last couple of years and you can tell by the general dcor & toilets that this is the case. Good selection of beers, Youngs, Doom Bar, Harveys Sussex & Otter Ale with slightly less emphasis on its carbonated counterparts. We ate in the Restaurant which is stylish and cosy. Menu is good without being to flash and our food was exactly what the menu said. Overall we are chuffed that we opted to seek this place out and we have already booked next week to take our friends up there (who have never heard of it either). The downside is the slight hum from the M25 if you are sitting outside (we could hardly make it out) and I can imagine that it could get very busy, but it appears well set up to cope with this.
All in all a general good find. Cheers to beerintheevening!
