The Rose and Crown, Low Hesket

The Rose and Crown is railway (and to a lesser extent bus and lorry) themed pub located on the A6 road going south out of Carlisle. A few months ago it was recommended to us by a colleague and went down for Sunday lunch and can honestly say it is the best we've had in the Carlisle area.
There is a nicely decorated bar area, with several real ales on tap with Jennings taking precedence. To the side is the dining room which is decorated with old railway photos and memorabilia, and even a model railway line running around the edge of the room on an elevated shelf (sadly not in operation at the time of our visit!). The sunday roast was excellent, with reasonably sized portions - if a little pricey compared to some pubs in Carlisle. Good selection of deserts as well.
Highly recommended if you're looking for a traditional country pub to go for lunch. Not sure what it would be like in the evening, but the real ales were kept well.
Booking definitely a good idea for the restaurant at busy times.
