The Plough and Harrow, Monknash

This is a briliant pub. Lots of character, very friendly staff, splendid range of beers, some direct from the barrel, and ciders. The food hits the spot too - not too pricey and the right mix of normal pub grub and bistro-style nosh. Old-fashioned farmhouse interior, nice garden, and there are plans so they tell me to open a brewery. Just wish it was closer to home.

Ye Old Farm House, Bath

This has been Bath's top jazz pub for as long as amyone can remember. Now under new management by the same people who run the Northey Arms and a couple of other foodie pubs in the country. Smartened up a bit but there's still jazz on Tuesday and Sundays. Menu looks good. Friendly enough pub with a lot of the old regulars still hanging around, but although there's a lot of handpumps and the beer is all well kept, it's all Wadworths. They don't even do Bellringer (which is brewed in the yard out the back) any more for goodness sake!

The Belvoir Castle, Bath

Under new management. Beer (only Courage Beast at the moment) not only drinkable but actually quite good. The old place is getting smartened up no end. Garden cleared and there'll soon be BBQs. New landlord very affable fellow. Glad to see that the decline of this boozer wasn't terminal after all, and that things are definitely looking up.
