Lewinnick Lodge, Newquay

Arrived at this establishment after a long walk from Crantock with our dog. We saw the lodge on the headland in the distance and were a bit worried - was it open? - why did it look so forbidding? We were delighted to find our misgivings unfounded! On walking through the door we were immediately warmly welcomed by the recently installed bar-man from the North. He had no objection to our dog (on a lead) or us (in our rather damp walking gear), and instantly got our canine friend some water without being asked. The beer (fresh barrel of Skinner's Cornish Blonde), the service and the food were all excellent (although the last was a bit expensive, it was definitely a significant cut about normal pub food). The ambience was also extremely pleasant, with varied but not intrusive background music. I heartily recommend this place if you want to visit somewhere with a bit more style than the majority of the competition, and if we return to visit the area this will definitely be on our list to revisit!
