The Boston Arms, Tufnell Park

Great pub, I used to use it when I lived in the area in 2001/2002. I now live in Winchmore Hill, so these days I only come down for big Arsenal matches as I know there will be a good atmosphere there.

Its a bit rough and ready, but I like that - a proper Irish boozer - and I have never been made to feel unwelcome there despite not really being a local anymore.

I can see a day when pubs like this are a thing of the past, the area is becoming more middle class every year - and there are no more working class Irish immigrants coming to the area - now its mostly Muslims who don't drink and so don't frequent pubs.

Enjoy it while you still can!

The Salisbury Arms, Winchmore Hill

Above average pub for the area. Near the station, and my main reason for recommending it is the great selection of German and Belgian beers (Paulaner/Fruili) on draught. Also there are nice areas to sit down outside.
On the down side, a couple of the bar staff are Eastern European and - whilst polite enough - they aren't the best at serving drinks. They have a lack of basic bar knowledge and language problems, it has taken me a while to get served by them before. Also there are occasions, when Spurs are playing at home, Saint George's day etc - when the chavvy 20 pints in a day brigade are out in force. This only happens occasionally, mostly its a good - but be aware incase you happen to go on a day like this. The pub is also child friendly.

The Kings Head, Winchmore Hill

Pub reviews are subjective, it depends on what you're after? I live in Winchmore Hill and have only been a couple of times but, based on that, I would say that the beer isn't anything special and expensive. Be prepared to pay well over 3 for average lagers like Stella. Its is nicely decorated but come on, in Zone 4 - a pint of Stella you can get anywhere for over 3?
The other comments about wannabe footballers wives coming here is true, but that's a bonus for a perv like me! Anyway, if you want a pub near the station whose insides look like a renovation off of "Property Ladder" then the Kings Head is for you. If you want a quiet pub with a good selection of lagers at a reasonable price but without the riff raff don't go here! I prefer the Salisbury Arms across the Green and still near the station, and no - I'm not the manager like one of the pro Kings Head reviewers here. Just a non-wanabee local with a job in the city.
