The Sun Inn, Marlborough

The old Sun run by Sarah was a 16th Century coaching Inn full of character, which served great home cooked food and a variety of local or lesser known Ales such as Ramsbury (about 3 miles from Marlborough) Stonehenge. (about 10 miles from Marlborough) and Cornish Coaster.

Most of the staff were young locals who added to the very friendly and rather eccentric atmosphere

Sadly Patrick the Landlord passed away and Sarah had to sell.

The pub was then extensively renovated by the new leaseholder.

The pub is now has absolutely no atmosphere, a kind of “Holiday Inn” sameness people will be familiar with from many chain pubs and has a limited overpriced menu.

Gone are the old staff and most of the local beers which have been replaced by “buy anywhere” brands.

I ranked the old Sun as a 9.

The Marlborough is sadly a 2.

Really not worth it – try the Crown, which has atmosphere , wonderful well priced food and probably most of the locals that used to go to the Sun.

Including me :o)
