Varsity, Wolverhampton

I remembered this place from years back on sojourns to wolverhampton when they used to have some great live music. Seems to have slipped down the pan - bar and staff looked tired, empty optics, hand pulls with no ales on and a nasty pint of keg bitter forced me to drink guinness - at least I cant tell if its cloudy. The beer 'garden' felt like a prison.

Hogshead, Wolverhampton

Part of a chain - hogshead - used to see them everywhere, not so much anymore. This one a real cask ale lovers dream. Bombardier plus 6 guests and appears to be pushing the local ale approach - with Enville and Woods beers available. Plus an excellent selection of other guests. The pub is looking a bit tired but the food is great value 2 meals for �6.00 and its got a pleasant beer garden (for a city centre pub). Much more pleasant drinking environment than the wetherspoons or goose pubs and well looked after ales.
