While I was staggered at how great pubs through the United Kingdom were, I was shocked at the rudeness displayed by the proprietor and staff of this establishment. My tour stopped at this pub and we spent an evening there during which time I tipped the waitress for every single drink and tipped well. At closing time she came over and grabbed my drink and a friends and poured them out after only selling them to us a minute before. When we protested to the owner she made racist remarks about our nationality and used foul language. She also tried to encourage the locals (who were invited to stay after hours) to take us outside and use physical violence on us. We were very shocked as until that moment our experience with British pubs had been fantastic. The staff even lied about getting tips from us and also used language. Finally we called her bluff and stated that we would call the police if she would not refund our money at which point she relented and gave us a refund of our last two drinks. We then departed to the sound of her racist remarks about our nationality.
