Paragon, Chiswick

This pub deserves mention. It's small and that's good. It has a vibe that isn't chain, even though it is. The food is good, but if you are in a hurry, then there's KFC next door. Paul and Ellen are fantastic managers and it is a great place to watch football. And when it's empty, you like being there. Admittedly, it was my local for several years, but for Chiswick it gets points for NOT being like so many of the other places. I never noticed a single arsehole there. Though I do recall the old manager, Colin, once taking a fire extinguisher to a drunk (spraying him with it), which was hilarity in the extreme. Superb place. Memories of Euro 2004 are marked by this place.

The Star Inn, Guildford

If you are young or want to be with young people who are into music, this is the place. Forget about the quality of anything you will ingest or who or what serves it to you, that's just for adding to the atmosphere. There is some genuine talent brewing musically in the area and this is the place to see it. And there are two staircases you can watch pissed people fall down, not just one. Don't wear anything you don't want ruined or spent too much money on to begin with. Can anyone name a better place that's worse?

The Compasses Inn, Gomshall

Admittedly, the selection of ales is good, and in summer it is a great place to while away a few pints whilst letting your little parasites...erm...children run riot. The stream is good fun and crayfish can be found easily in it. I have to say, there are better, but there is something about this pub that deserves a good belch and a hideous round of flatulence.
