The Kings Arms, Ludham

After the long walk from the Dog (see other review) i was desperate for food, so I was really hoping that this would be good. Pub went silent as we walked in, so after checking that i did only have one head, summised that this was the usual early evening greeting for strangers. I did really stand out as a visitor, as a) I was clean, b) spoke in an accent you could understand, and c) didn't have the same moon round or weasel looking face that all the local inbreds seem to have around here.
Anyway, I digress. Beer was pretty good, although the Broadside here did not taste the same as the Ferry in Reedham. After 3 or 4 pints, and watching what must have been the entire Derby and Joan Club march in we decided that we needed to eat. Menu looked ok, although trying to be all things to all men. (anything described on the menu as 'smothered' teands to worry me). Ribs were not bad, and the carpet bagger steak was pretty good. nicely medium with a little blood. Well done. Also my request to change the sauce from Red Wine to Bearnaise was easily accomodated. (its easy to open another jar i suppose.) Cromer Crab Salad was very good.
Portions were HUGE, but the family large who sat opposite us still managed to polish it off. I though that their fingers may have been in danger at some point!!
Pudding was missed as the waitress forgot to bring the menu, and doing a runner would have been all to easy as we were left completely on our own for too long with no follow up. Service Ok from one waitress, take it or leave it from another. The only final thing that I didnt like was seeing the chef turn up for his shift dressed in his whites (actually it looked like he'd been doing an oil change on a Perkins deisel during the afternooon), which should be sterile and kept to the kitchen. If you like plastic table cloths, plastic palm trees, and an entrance like the Blue Oyster Club this is the place for you. Actually its not too bad and a good family place.

The Dog Inn, Ludham

Well, in two months it must have gone downhill fast. Ok, a friendly greeting when we entered, but the all pervading smell of fried food set the alarm bells ringing straight away. This could be such a money spinner, but things like ripped sofas in the window area, carpets so worn they were repaired by gaffer tape, and a menu board that looked straight out or the Makro best selections of the week magazine made the choice easy to make to finish our one pint and chance the long walk to the Kings Arms. As we were sitting in the garden my earlier comment re: Makro was borne out, as a car pulled up to unload what was indeed the weekely supply wagon from Makro. Fresh local produce my ar*e. Anyone for Aro!!!

The White Horse Inn, Neatishead

Popped in here for lunch whilst cruising> well glad i did. The broadside was first class, and a simple meal like Ham, egg and chips must have used most of the pig. so much ham that the missus could eat it all. well recommended as loads of boards games etc for that quiet evening getting smashed with company.
