The Duke of Norfolk, Brighton

the pub has a great atmosphere and a good selection of beers. had a sunday roast there on 4/Nov/07, meat tasted a bit dry, very thin gravy, very soft and overcooked vegetables (which are great if you've got bad tooth!). Overall, great place for drinks, but not for food.

The Great Eastern, Brighton

Great atmosphere and very friendly staff, although they may get chatted away with you and forget about serving other people.
I've been there twice and both time I was after Sunday roast, it was absolutely great! Tried beef/lamb/pork/nutloaf with friends, all were delicious (and not over-cooked which I hate!) It's a place I know I can rely on if I'm after a good Sunday roast.

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

just been there and the food was average. I was after a great Sunday roast after seeing the "good food" stickers on their windows, but sadly, the roast meal was very average. The pub is full of characters with it's low ceiling and very traditional deco. good ranges of beer and staff was very friendly and chatty.
My partner and I ordered beef and lamb roast respectively, both our meats were very dry and actually tasted like the meal you'd get in those frozen packaged roast meal. the gravy was very thin and quite tasteless. However, if you are a vegetarian, then you could actually getting a very nice treat. The vegetables that comes with the roast meal was absolutely fantastic, you can actually taste the freshness and it's very well-cooked. What's more, all the roast meal comes with 2 Yorkshire puddings! all in all, average food it may be, the pub is still worth visiting coz I really like the deco and the ales there.

The Eagle, Brighton

Been there 16/Sep/07. Very relaxed and groovy atmosphere, friendly staff but they sometimes chats away with each other and forget to get customer attentions. Beers were OK, my roast lamb tasted OK too, but my partner's pork were quite dry and therefore very tough! we went there at 3pm and noticed that no one has ordered pork, maybe was just unlucky. All in all, a nice modern deco for a pub with decent food portion.

The Lion And Lobster, Brighton

Just been there on Sunday, 7/Oct/07. Good range of beer & real ale, good atmophere but the quality control of was quite bad. I was after a nice roast meal coz a friend of mine recommanded their roast meal, but I was very disappointed. They had the best gravy I've ever tasted but at the same time the driest beef I've ever eaten, lamb also a bit on the dry side, overcooked vegetables (carrots were burnt and black on one side), and only beef roast comes with yorkshire pudding. All in all, a very characteristic deco and good place for drinking. but if you're having a meal there, good luck to you.
