The Five Bells, Chailey

What has happened?? I tried 3 times a few weeks ago to have lunch but they were closed each time, I was told they had changed hands. Boo Hoo.

I shall reserve final judgement until the new people have been there longer but the service was very disorganised last week, when I finaly got my expensive lunch! I only hope they dont ruin what was a lovely pub with fab food, it has been back to its former glory for years now. Please be gentle with the pub & fingers crossed you can continue the good things from the last couple.

The Lamb, Piltdown

It is clearly set-up for bored parents & their kids, in fact the whole of the outside looks terrifying but they certainly seem to know what kids want. We took the family there just after Christmas. (Yes, we were bored!) The food, average but they have a sweet shop! Do they not know how hard we parents try NOT to give our kids rubbish, especially when they've just had dessert. "E" numbers galore. The play area is fab, can't wait for someone else to take my lot there in the summer, but I wont be sitting by the road watching them play! I guess it's just not my cup of tea, but I'm sure there are plenty out there who'll love it!

The Royal Oak, Poynings

They have had a make-over & its very smart, lots of attention to detail. Shame then that the menu looks lovely but frankly tastes like they've opened a packet. Ordered duck pancakes & it was dull with "Blue Dragon" hoi sin & sweet chilli. Fish & chips was very expensive, very small & 15 chips! They have a great concept just not executed well, maybe give them some time to settle??!

The Griffin Inn, Fletching

Over-rated! Good food & wine list but over priced. Beautiful sunset in the garden. Full of posh idiots! Now its just trading on an old reputation. Service is average. Too many other excellent places out there for me to bother again!

The Five Bells, Chailey

Love it! Been 10 times in 3 months! Interesting menus, scrummy food & friendly staff. I'm always the driver so its nice to see loads of different non-alcoholic drinks. The same young couple have been there years so not sure what earlier reviewer meant?! Good value compared to so many other "foodie" pubs.
