Nags Head, Reading

Excellent pub, excellent beer and range (tried the West Berkshire Maggs) only (very minor) grump being the pub is a bit souless if you're in there on a wet afternoon with only 1 or 2 other customers. Well worth a 8.

The Foresters Arms, Reading

Can only agree with the last comment, I had Brakspears Bitter and it was excellent. A bit out of town, but the worth the walk especially if the weather is any good, as it's got a large beer garden out the back.

The Retreat, Reading

Saturaday lunch, and I think we where the first customers at nearly 12:30 : not unexpected as it is a bit of the beaten track. A pity, as though to some eyes it will appear shabby, to others it will be inviting. 3 beers tried, Wye Valley - Hereford Pale Ale, White Horse - Village Idiot and Ringwood - Best Bitter. All where excellent and an intended 1 beer visit expanded to the 3. Best pub in Reading for beer, only downside is no food, but as there where few customers lunchtime that's only to be expected.

The Eldon Arms, Reading

Great traditional back street boozer. A bit quiet maybe, but the welcome was inviting and the beer, Wadworth's 6x was good as well.

The Alehouse, Reading

Visited just as it opened 11:00. Great range of beers which included 3 milds (mild in May). I had the Marlow's Rebellion Mild which was excellent.
Still just as inviting as ever, with a ceiling covered in the 5900 beer mats showing the beers served over recent years and lots of little alcoves.

Nags Head, Reading

Walked in at 5 to 12. Pub almost empty but bar staff attentive, without being overly so. Pint of Arkell's Moonlight was excellent and pub was filling up when I left at 20 past 12.
Overall very good, and I liked the list of beers, and forthcoming beers, on blackboards over the bar.

The Black Bull, Whitechapel

A visit recently found the Bar Nakoda aka Black Bull closed and the interior being ripped out. Nothing visible as to what was happening (refurb/change of use, etc).
