The Grapes, Mathew St, Liverpool

I used to use this pub in the late 60's and seventies - just after the Beatles deserted Liverpool for The Smoke. I can tell you that it is now nothing like the pub it once was. The layout and bar are completely different. Last time I popped in I was 'served' by a lazy fat old bird who had quite obviously made the wrong career choice. It was adecent boozer in the 60's and 70's - all the bands playing at the Cavern would pop in between sets. Now it's a tacky old dump.

The Lord Nelson, Barnet

Run by a dishevelled old couple. No greeting or farewell from the male of the duo. No thank you upon ordering a pint. A mangy old dog roaming in and out from behind the bar - how do they get away with that as a food pub? Was a fantastic pub when the Irishman used to run it. Great pity.

The Rising Sun, Mill Hill

Stumbled across this gem at the weekend. It's a small village pub at the top of a hill. Was quiet when I arrived, but the barmaid and locals were friendly. Small intimate bar with a wonderful little room up a couple of steps. The Youngs was perfect. Didn't think there were any pubs like this left in London!
