The Stile Bridge Inn, Marden

This was a first visit for us; great pub, lovely staff and great feel BUT.... the prices were horrendous which meant we only stopped for 1 having done a 30 mile round trip. To charge 4 for a pint of Bitburger and 2.20 for not even half a pint of coke is just too much. This is why people drink at home as they can't afford pub prices!!! Such a shame as I would be happy to regularly do the journey for such a nice pub and people but not at these prices.... They also stock the new Kent Brewery beers which the grapevine reports as being quite excellent....

The Nevill Bull, Birling

Have visited a few times recently. Kate and Paul, the new owners are a lovely couple and wow, can Kate cook - I highly recommend the cod & chips or the calamari - not necessary the cheapest pub grub but you can justify the cost when you see the size portions and taste the quality; a nice touch is the complimentary bread and butter in a basket. An added bonus to us is the fact they stock the newly opened Kent Brewery's beers, on a permanent basis with a frequent change of the beer choice. Worth a visit.

The Rock, Chiddingstone Hoath

We visit every now and then and have seen the change with Matt and Laura - it's all for the good. The pub food (scampi & chips, steak & chips) gets a 10 out of 10; brilliant pub grub on a cold wintery lunchtime. The pub is a real traditional place and upon entering makes you feel warm inside. My only request might be that they stop allowing the horses to stand right in the entrance way of the pub - I'm highly allergic and on a couple of ocassions recently, after a local horse event, have been forced to walk behind the horses without the owners making any effort to move them. They should be tied up somewhere slightly more appropriate and a little more consideration given to us paying customers and non horse lovers. That said, take the time to visit as these small country pubs need the trade from people making the effort to seek them out.

The Castle Inn, Chiddingstone

Knock out - 10 out of 10. It may not be the cheapest place in the world but it's certainly not the most expensive either and the food is worth EVERY PENNY (you get what you pay for)..... I've been lucky enough to experience many well know London restuarants and seriously, The Castle beats them all! The service is personal, the food is excellent, the venue is mind blowing and very welcoming. The locals meet you once and by the time you leave, you feel like you've known them forever; such a lovely community spirit. Chris in the restaurant can't do enough for you and is the epitome of professional. Take the time to visit because unless you're mad, you'll make this a regular haunt.... Such a beautiful part of untouched Kent countryside too. Enjoy!
