The Hop Poles, Hammersmith

Used to drink here as a teenager back in the mid 90's. Many fond memories (and bad ones). Always lively and full of people getting tanked up before heading to the Palais afterwards. Times have changed somewhat (some say for the better) and the atmosphere will never be replicated in this modern era of gastro pubs.

The White Hart, Whitechapel

Having lived in this area all of my life, I've seen too many good pubs fall victim to 'regeneration'. The graduate types that never grew up in the area will never understand that there was once a predominately working class culture in the East End long before they arrived, hence the reason that some young East Enders still exist (the ones that never moved to Essex). It will be a sad day when all of the East End pubs conform to please this new soulless generation, but I'm afraid that will happen one day.

The Westbourne, Westbourne Green

Shame. This place used to be ok a few years back, when it used to be a pub called the Shakespeare. Unfortunately (like so many pubs these days) it got turned into something completely different. A place that seems more intent on attracting young 'affluent' clientele rather than real locals.
