The Bull, Stanford Dingley

The Bull is re-opening in May 2011 and will be run by the same people who run the Queens Head in Bradfield Southend. Should be good if that's anything to go by!

The Portway Inn, Andover

Similar problem to last post.

The only convenient place we could find after a day out at Longleat and with a time limit as we have two small children. Arrived at 6.45pm and already busy.

It took half an hour to order and half an hour for the food to arrive. My wife ordered the medium rare steak which was also well done and having waited so long we didn't have time to send back.

Won't go again but I would say the staff there were very busy and perhaps it was because there weren't enough of them rather than those present being lazy.

We've been going to this lovely pub for years and this was a plus on moving to the area. We were delighted that a remained a pub but have found it has subsequently lost something. Nice guy who runs it but his staff are lacking in the politeness and service stakes.
On a recent visit found that West Berks beers were nowhere to be seen. Friends have given us poor reports on food but will judge for ourselves as we really want this pub to succeed.

The Queens Head, Bradfield

QH is a great pub. The present owners have turned it into a real local that has become the centre of the community. The food is not cheap but is excellent and they have retained the bar area for drinking, avoiding the common problem of isolating those who only want a drink.
Staff are always polite and friendly although they are sometimes rushed when swamped on evenings when people haven't booked.
We are also fortunate in being able to walk here and will continue do so!
