Lamb, Wantage

Nice place. Looks ancient from the exterior, but the interior seems surprsingly modern with an interesting glass roof effect. The beer and food is good value and it has a nice beer garden on the off chance the sun is shining.Generally a bit of a winner, although it is "family friendly" and I guess that will either
be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view....

Wetherspoons, Hampstead

Used to be a passable place to have a quick pint before the cinema, with a decent range of guest beers just about compensating for the rather soulless atmosphere. These days the place looks like it's on the slide. Guest ales seem to be being eroded by a collection of lagers, seemingly 6 or 7 different ones at my last visit (including Budweiser-the appearance of which is never a good sign). Service is generally quite poor as well , very large bar with never more than a couple of people serving, regardless of how busy it is.The whole pub just exudes a slightly stale air and I honestly can't think of anything much to recommend it.

The Sherlock Holmes, Charing Cross

Well, it does everything fairly competently I suppose.
I'm just not sure it's worth going out of your way for.Beer is good (Greene King) albeit expensive, food fairly standard-issue and the interior no great shakes.Busy enough, so maybe i'm just being a moaning so and so.Still, I reckon you'd be better served by going to the Ship and Shovell nearby.

The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross

Literally a Pub of two halves , and they are both pretty nice. Tucked away down a alley this place feels secluded despite being right next to Charing cross. Does a good range of Badger beers (generally a bit hard to find)and has a nice interior. Bit smoky maybe, but otherwise a winner.

The Slug and Lettuce, Richmond

You would think they could try a bit harder with such a prime location.Instead it was the usual dull Slug and lettuce experience , made worse by the plastic glasses and terrible beer. Particularly foul Bombardier when I visited , cloudy and with a taste that suggested it had been stored out in the river for several months before finding it's way into my glass.Apalling.

The Castle, Notting Hill

For a pub, this place seems strangely reluctant to actually sell beer. Bar staff seem more content to stare into the middle distance, chat on mobile phones or vanish completely than actually do any serving.Bit of a shame really as otherwise this place could be quite reasonable, with it's range of slightly unusual beers. Just be prepared to wave frantically at the bar.
