The Hatchet Inn, Bristol

Excellent pub for a well priced lunchtime drink and snack. Food was very good, quickly prepared and very reasonably priced.

The Hope and Anchor, Bristol

Simply a wonderful pub! The atmosphere, the beer, and the food were all a most welcome find during a conference in Bristol. The enormous portions of excellent food is highly recommended.

A fine example of how a pub should be run!

The Gun Barrels, Selly Oak

I find the concept of these scream pubs objectionable; if you have a stupid yello card (which you have paid for) you are charged a high price for the drinks, however, without a card (like me) you are charged an even higher price for the drinks!

Manages to survive purley on its location to the university and lazy students who can't be bother to walk to find a decent pub/pint. When no students are around atmosphere is OK.

The Crown, Bridgnorth

A would-be-club that fails terribly. When you finally get served the beer is overpriced and often of a very poor quality.

There are many fantastic pubs in Bridgnorth; avoid this one and go else where.

The Country Girl, Selly Oak

Pleasently surprised; beer was resonable, as was the food and service. Nice outside area and good decor and atmosphere inside.

Very good for a chain pub.

The Goose At The OVT, Selly Oak

I am afraid this pub, in trying to be everything to all men, achieves nothing to any man! One of the closest pubs to the University the clientele is a mix of students and older selly oak residents. Food is standard pub fair from this chain, but the beer is nothing special.

If you are in Selly Oak you could go here, but I would recommend a walk off the student trail.

The Swan Hotel, Bridgnorth

If you are in Bridgnorth this pub comes highly recommended. It has none of the would-be-club hangups of The Crown, or the terrible service of Weatherspoons; just good beer, good atmosphere and good service.

Jewel Of The Severn, Bridgnorth

A real mix of a pub; by day a good choice for a standard, cheap meal but by night a real problem. The bar becomes too busy, the management seem comprehend that more staff are required, and the wait becomes terrible.

Serves "real ales", but is normally badly kept.

On the plus side, going smoke-free from later in 2005.
