The Walmer Castle, Notting Hill

I have been visiting this place to watch the world cup and its brill no matter what game is on you find supporters from both teams here and a great atmosphere. I also got to feel superior to the local American supporters, not often I meet people who know less about the offside rule than me.
Great place all round.

To anonymous!!! Since you obviously work for the place I dont think your comments have much merit. To everyone else, house music will probably drown out the sound of fist on face, and your brain, better still find a bar that has more going for it than a friendly landlord (never seen them) and a desperate DJ!!!!!!

Supposed to be the cheapest place around? Interesting interior?.Yes. Pleasant safe atmosphere?.No.

A friend arranged to meet me here, I arrived early took one look at the clientele and decided I would rather meet somewhere else. Didnt have time to try any alcohol as this place is just to dam scary!!

This place is cool, it gets a little crowded but isnt that a sign of a good pub? The food is good and the staff friendly oh and its famous because its won the Evening Standard pub of the year award. Surely the gold standard of awards (sorry just creeping a little)
For a great few hours after work, have a few here then slip down to the nearby Uxbridge arms for a less crowded atmosphere before ending up in the Malabar for the best curry this side of Hounslow.

Great pub, with an ever-changing mix of customers. It is true that if you go for a lunch time session youll meet the older crowd made up of the Generals, Admirals mentioned by others. I can understand that if your face is a little off white like mine you could get a little uncomfortable by all the talk of bringing back the Empire etc etc, But more often than not these old guys are taking the mickey out of each other and can be quite fun to talk to. I have always been treated with absolute courtesy, although short skirts get you a long way!!!!!
In the evening you get a better mix of age groups and it gets a little livelier.
The place is small but I think this adds to the atmosphere rather than detracting from it.
The drinks selection is varied and the wine has the desired affect (dont drink brakspears so wont comment). The bar staff are always excellent including the landlady whos more than happy to share a few with the customers.
They get a gold star for getting two large screens in for the world cup so a great place to watch a Brazil win again!!!
Its a pity I live so far away or this would be my local.

Have to agree with the comments about being full of chavs been in this pub twice and twice have witnessed trouble. Wouldnt recommend this pub or the area to anyone. The comments by anonymous below!! about pretentious yuppies are so far wide of the mark it beggars belief. Do you work for the bar or What? You wouldnt get a yuppie to pass wind outside this place let alone drink in it!!!
