The Ring of Bells, Compton Martin

Visited on one of the few sunny days this month, and sat in the huge and well kept garden. Butcombe Ale was on good form as was the friendly barmaid and wonderful Ploughmans with ham, cheddar AND stilton we enjoyed! Menu appears to be what would be considered 'traditional' pub fayre, and a little too uncomplicated for some, but ideal for us.

The Bear and Swan, Chew Magna

popped in for lunch and enjoyed a hearty, if expensive snack. attractive bar area, and not your usual kind of place. restaurant looked interesting (open kitchen!) if empty, but it was a tuesday lunchtime

The Queen Victoria Inn, Priddy

cold wet day, was welcomed by a smile and two log fires. once we made our way through the crowd of locals at the bar, the service was friendly and quick. food was excellent; home cooked and cheap. the burgers are among the best you will find!

City Arms, Wells

not family friendly. felt ousted with a well behaved child. but would have to agree with others that there is charm and good range of ales. food was good, if a little overpriced.

The Nettlebridge Inn, Oakhill

Friendly staff, great service. Was out for a meal with a large group of friends and we felt welcome. food was average price, but nicely presented and of reasonable quality. Very bright and obviously recently rennovated, but done well.

The Crown Hotel, Wells

Visited on a midweek lunchtime. Comfortable surroundings, varied menu choice, friendly service. Ordered a toasted sandwich in some kind of Italian bread, which was fine, but not worth shouting about. Nice to have a paper or two to read during my visit.
