Half Moon Inn, Sheepwash

A real gem, this one! Small village pub in a tiny Devon village ideally located opposite the village square and church.

Small outside seating area to front of the pub. Very extensive menu and specials board. we tried 4 dishes (over 2 visits) and all were excellent and very reasonably priced. I had the Legend ale from Dartmoor Brewery which was in excellent condition. Friendly Landlord and locals. Highly recommended.

The Bull, Hinton

Nice traditional country pub with first class food. Landlords son is the head chef and he knows his stuff. Usually have a guest beer on with 6X as the regular which is always in excellent condition. Only real downside is that drinks are fiendishly expensive. Over 3 quid for 6X? Give me a break!

The Old Tavern, Fishponds

Oh dear! Cold, clinical, flat screen TV's everywhere and Sky sports. No real ales, just keg lager and cider and John Smiths. Everything a British pub shouldn't be. Avoid!!

Old Stillage, Redfield

It's not closed and is still being run by Arbor Ales. Can't comment on the normal clientele as I visited late afternoon when the pub was almost empty but it's much nicer inside than the outside appearance would lead you to believe.

Tried 3 of the four Arbor ales on offer (Brigstow, Beech Blonde and Oyster Stout) and all were in superb condition as one would expect from a brewery tap with the Oyster Stout being exceptionally good.

Early days but lets hope Arbor can continue to lift this old pub from its past reputation?

Folly, Emersons Green

Better than most of the souless chain pubs in the area but not as good as some of the country pubs a mile or so away.

Very little choice of real ales on this visit (Pedigree or Brakspear) but the Pedigree was in good condition.

Good choice of pub-standard food and well-cooked and presented.

Nice outdoor area if a little noisy due to close proximity to A4174 ring road.

The Willy Wicket, Downend

It's a Mitchell & Butler chain pub so you know what to expect. Nicely fitted out and although the beers were in good condition, it's the usual suspects. Food is much improved recently but what really lets this primarily eating venue down is the consistently slow service. There is never enough staff on so even when the pub is almost empty you have to wait ages to get served.
Definately better than most theme pubs though.
