The Poltimore Arms, Yarde Down

First time back for about two years. We called Sat lunchtime and met new landlords, very pleasant localpeople who had wanted to run this special pub for many years. when previous landlord retired through ill health, they took their chance. We enjoyed the conversations, excellent tasty food and good exmoor beer.
This very special place is in good hands and will get even better.
Remote with no mains electricity but landlords said they intend to improve signposting. Please note I think cards are still not accepted due remoteness,I remember the first time I came here and when i went to pay by credit card the previous landlord said sorry we cannot process cards, send me a cheque in the post!!! We had enough cash to pay. This sums up the Poltimore, still too far from home :>(((

The Grampus, Ilfracombe

grampus has gone downhill since new landlord took over b4 xmas. Such a shame since pub was one of my favourites to sit outside lunchtimes.
poor beer and very average food

The Six Bells Hotel, Peterstone Wentlooge

another landlady, reverted back to a slightly grubby country boozer. I would avoid, plenty better than this !

Cefn Mably Arms, Michaelston y Fedw

last visited 10 years ago even though only 300 yards from my house !! Heard good reports so visited Wednesday.
Very pleasantly surprised, friendly family run country pub. Busy bar with people talking and nearly full restaurant, good beer and excellent food with very pleasant service. Very enjoyable evening meal, probably as good as any in recent times.
I rate this pub as highly as any of the many pubs across the country I have reviewed over the years and its on my doorstep. I WILL RETURN !!

The Exmoor Forest Hotel, Simonsbath

Excellent country inn with character. We have had a number of meals here, always excellent with local ingredients. Sat in garden for enjoyable lunch, always quick and very pleasant service with conversations going on between the tables.Good real ales, exmoor and tribute on last visit. Dog and walker friendly.
Very highly recommended (excellent service, food, atmosphere, beer) wish it was closer to home, 100 miles

The Star Inn, Talybont on Usk

very pleasantly surprised. Excellent village pub with large number of real ales and ciders. Landlord has the right attitude, very helpful, enjoyed the pub food (home made).Large open fire. A village pub in a good village beside the river and canal used by locals and visitors alike. Cannot recommend more highly,

The Carpenters Arms, Coed-y-Paen

revisited today, very disappointed.
Pub could do with a clean, chairs in restaurant etc thick with dust. food not the same quality as previous visits, difficult to cut the beef and duck with the knives. we suggested they supply steak knives in future and in fact later on the next table they did!! Vegetables were not inspiring, gravy had a funny taste in fact the only thing we enjoyed was the BEER.
Having previously praised and recommended this pub to many friends I am sad to have rate our visit so lowly. We will NOT be returning.

bought item from Chalford and seller recommended going to Crown for sunday lunch.
Totally endorse comments from "Jonno".
service from Darren? and rest of the staff, the lunch with a piece of excellent beef. Not wafer thin slices. Excellent quality food, well cooked and presented.Enjoyed the real ales.
Good restaurant pub and very busy when we visited, still served quickly.
Having reviewed many pubs and visited many more I rate my lunch in my top four ever.
Very highly recommended, pity sixty miles from home!!

The Bar, Instow

service no better than when I visited 6 months ago.7-8 people waiting at bar, some obviously for some time to buy drinks, order food and to pay for meals.
lunchtime 13.40 Saturday only wanted a snack so we ordered BLT roll. After waiting over half hour enquired about food. Eventually someone came behind bar and she informed us that we had been told there was a 45 minute wait, TOTALLY UNTRUE!
food came after about 40 minutes, not acceptable for a quick snack
Overheard other people leaving complaining about slow service

Suggest you go elsewhere until they get their act together

The Pyne Arms, East Down

This pub was excellent 10/10 about 4 years ago then lost its chef and went downhill as far as food concerned and landlord appeared to lose interest. Changed hands in 2005 and on our only visit just after was quite good, always and interesting village pub with lively locals. WE will visit again this year and expect it to be even better. I will rate it then."

The Poltimore Arms, Yarde Down

Unbeatable pub food with a wide range of dishes freshly cooked using local meat and fish. the last mouthful tastes as good as the first!!. Delicate use of herbs and spices produce food as good as any 5* hotel. Quick pleasant service both sides of the bar with excellent beers. Over 50 meals served on the night of our visit so booking is recommended. This 13th century pub has flagstones, bare tables and lighting provided by a generator so it is pleasantly different. A genuine pub which is well worth visiting. See you there(wish it was back home in Cardiff so I could visit more often)
