The Trinity, Borough

The food is excellent, but the beers - oh dear. Despite claiming to be a real ale pub, and dispensing from hand pumps, the beer is clearly keg, not cask real ale. I tried Harveys Best and Doom Bar, but both were tasteless, inspid and not worthy of the name. Real ale affficionados should avoid.

The Dukes Head, Croydon

Looks like "Cactus Jack" was shortlived. It's now the Apatura restaurant.

The Penderel's Oak, Holborn

Used to be an after work regular here but it's gone downhill so much we go elsewhere now. The range of guest beers is not kept up, and it takes far too long to get served now, waiting behind groups of Traceys ordering bottles of WKD and paying for a 5 round with a bank card.

George IV, Holborn

Has been acquired by the nearby London School of Economics and re-opened under their management in January 2006. Reasonably priced beer, and is now all non-smoking. Main clientele is LSE students (the more affluent ones, the rest use the student bar)

The Lyceum, Strand

Currently closed for refurbishment (Feb 2006). Hope they don't destroy the period decor!
