Nelsons Bar and Restaurant, Southsea

Looks unpromising, but its actually quite a nice bar on a large caravan, holiday park. Real ale is usually good, and not expensive. It has a nice little play area for kids, and so its good for a family drink, sitting outside, in the Summer.

Leopold Tavern, Southsea

Nice little pub, could do with a better range of real ale, but the Abbott is always good. Usually quite full, but some comfortable seating. No where to lock up your bike outside, and no wifi, but otherwise one of the better pubs in Southsea.

The Sir Loin Of Beef, Southsea

Great pub, another I visit regularly on my way home. Even got a cycle rack outside! Really good real ale, always got a good selection of guest ales too. Interior decor is a bit idiosyncratic, but I like all the submarine memorabilia. Alas the jukebox is definitely too loud, and no wifi, but otherwise one of the best pubs in Southsea.

The Apsley House, Southsea

Always enjoy my visits here, usually excellent local real ales (and cheap during happy hour), noisy jukebox, but the music selection is good. Its also well situated on my cycle home. Both the pub cat and the landlord seem to have plenty of character, but only one sleeps on top of the jukebox, guess which? Pity it does not have wifi, but very happy to drink somewhere with a mobile phone ban!

The Ferryboat Inn, Hayling Island

I usually visit this pub regularly in the Summer, whilst waiting for the Ferry, a great end to a cycle ride... BUT, last year it was great (say 7/10), the visits this year.. phew! Real ale is usually 'off', one (ONE) bar staff on Sunday, hence a minimum of 30 minutes wait to get served (even tho the place was only half full). I made the mistake of buying food, and they are clearly having a joke, I thought they had served me a child portion by mistake. The 'new' menu has removed many of the usual staples likes Nachos. This is a wonderfully situated pub, it ought to be a real money spinner, without any need to squeeze the last drop of profit by cheating on food, bar staff and cleaners. At the moment I'd say bring a packed lunch and a bottle of beer, this place ain't worth a visit (unless you like being ripped off). Lets hope it gets a real manager soon, at the moment its being run into the ground. This year its 1/10 (and the 1 is because its in such a great location).
