The Plume of Feathers, Greenwich

A lesson to be learned here - don't be so selfish as to take your oversized lifestyle-pram into what is clearly a compact, busy pub full adult-sized patrons. If you must take your screaming child into a pub, annoy the hell out of everyone around you (really - your kid is not the centre of the known world) and generally impose your life on others then have the common sense to a) carry it in or b) use a perfectly decent folding pushchair that doesn't get in the way.

Great pub; excellent beer, decent value food.

The Prince of Wales, Holland Park

I thought this place was quite alright - went for a Sunday lunch yesterday and had an acceptable 3 courses and coffee for less than 17 a head! The beer choice was extensive, the decor fun and the place had a generally airy feel to it.

Yes, they were woefully understaffed; at one point the lad in charge was running about like a maniac trying (and succeeding)to hold it all together. I asked him if he felt they were slightly down on numbers for such a busy lunch and he lamented that management decided they could cut back that day.

Very friendly service, surprisingly well priced and a nice atmosphere. Before I knew it I'd spent 3 relaxed hours in there; I'd certainly go back.

Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich

This one really gets you reaching for the razorblades.

Another great venue snatched from Greenwich by the unstoppable Frank Dowling and turned around into a ghastly souless dive aimed squarely at tourists and the Spiky Haired Brigade (estate agents, salemen etc along with their respective orange girlfriends.

Wonderful location, appalling use of space, septic toilets and Frank's unique method of staffing it with bland humourless cretins all add up to an experience best left to the less discerning.

Oh, why couldn't a well-known local brewery take over these places and squeeze out the plebs??

Not barred from this one yet but trying hard.

W Lounge, Greenwich

Appalling meat-market owned by Greenwich's infamous "Frank the Yank", staffed by idiots and patronised by the dregs of west Kentinsh society.

Thankfully I've been barred.

As if the Powder Monkey was not enough of an abomination the W**k Lounge surely takes the spot for Greenwich's most foul nightspot?

The Vanbrugh, Greenwich

I've tried, REALLY tried to like this place but I am now forced into a total boycott, which is a shame.

I live closer to this than my usual haunt so thought "why not" and went there.

No ales.

I went back a week later.

No ales.

Not only that but the combination of big TVs, UTTERLY dopy staff in tight jeans and the ingenious way they're getting around the smoking ban combine to outweight the good points (food was acceptable when I ate one evening).

I don't only drink ale; only if the lager selection is dire do I turn to the cask-kept stuff but for a pub obviously trying to be a bit "middle class" it fails on so many levels.

I think I will stick to the Plume if I am drinking on this side of the Park.
