The Pillars of Hercules, Soho

I went there tonight and invited four friends. I am so ashamed and embarrassed that I subjected my friends to the rude and impertinent behavior of the bar staff. Never again. I cannot believe that someone would own a bar and not care whether or not their staff treated their guests properly.... The manager was there and seemed happy to chat with her friend rather than serve the customers.

The Masons Arms, Marylebone

I went here back in the fall when Stinger was on, and I agree it was a great pint. Went back last weekend and had a decent Hopping Hare at a whopping 3 pounds! Most expensive beer of the night.

The Duke Of Wellington, Marylebone

The Bombardier was smashing, but the Adnams undrinkable. Talked to the manager who said the landlord had had some that day and thought it was alright. Worrisome!

Not a great pub. Wouldnt go back. The Bombardier was undrinkable.

The Wargrave Arms, Marylebone

A decent pub, clean and comfortable. People seemed friendly enough, and the Youngs beer was suprisingly good considering I dont like Youngs much!

Windsor Castle, Marylebone

Went in on March 4th,and tried the Bombardier and the Adnams, both of which were served in good condition. I am surpised to read the reviews commenting on awful beer. It might have been a rare good night, so I will try it again.

The Old Dairy, Finsbury Park

My first visit was March 3 to check out the new renovations. What a great building! It is remarkably spacious and it felt great to not be squeezed in in a London pub. Tried a Grand Union bitter which was spot on. The staff was obviously new, but I didn't see any sign of bad attitude. And the crowd was young and trendy rather than "stuck up". Definitely a place to try again- wish it was my local!

The Dog and Duck, Soho

Had a nice pint of landlord last night but the barman gave me two pints with really large heads. He topped it up only after I asked, shouldnt be doing that in a place like this. He must be new. Training please!

I went here on a pub crawl Thursday night (22nd) and rated the beer best of the night. I couldnt wait to go back and so I went again last night (25th) and the beer was terrible. Had a Bombardier that was drinkable but tasted nothing like Bombardier, and an undrinkable Bomber. Confusing.

The Norfolk Arms, Russell Square

I went back here Saturday 24th and still think its a great pub (still got a great table!) but they need to choose better beers. Thanks for having two real ales and taking care of them, but can we just have at least one interesting one please? (Am I being greedy?)

The Three Greyhounds, Soho

The night I went (thursday Feb 22) the beers were in pretty poor condition. Landlord and Adnams both.

The Newton Arms, Holborn

Adnams was drinkable, not a bad place.

The Freemasons Arms, Covent Garden

I tried the Spitfire which was undrinkable, and the Masterbrew, which was just barely drinkable.

Saturday night and the pub had empty tables, not great for the pub but great for us. I had the only Green King IPA in my life that didnt taste off. That alone shows someone here cares! As for the pub, its beautiful. They do food and the prices are lower than any other gastropub I have been to. Some of it is tapas, great when you just want a bar snack! Definitely one to return to.

The Hillgate, Notting Hill Gate

Last night this pub had an interesting but scary mix of clients. I saw some things I am not comfortable with. Dont want to go into it here, but wouldnt recommend you go here on your own. The beer was okay.

The Prince of Wales, Kensington

Something is seriously wrong here. Went in for a pint with friends last night, ordered a Landlord, found it undrinkable, took it back and was convinced to try another pint of the same by the bartender, which again was awful. The taste was cider vinegar but is it possibly from the glasses? Could their rinse water be that infected? Went to another pub where the beer was fine so it wasnt me. Knowing the damage that this pub is doing the cause of real ale, I have to give it a zero. Avoid at all costs.

The Junction Tavern, Kentish Town

hmmm, thats funny, Mary. If you look at Nethergates website, you will see that they list the Junction as a pub that "always stocks Nethergate beers". Hows that for choice?

I have had to reevaluate my favorite pub. For one thing, they now seem to only serve nethergate beers. Come on, these beers are horrible and I know its not the fault of bad cellarmanship. What kind of deal are you getting on them? There are many great breweries out there whose beers I would like to drink. Enough of the nethergate! Then I went there sunday and there was no one behind the bar! Waited 5 minutes then went home. Whats that all about?

The Dog and Duck, Soho

I tried this pub several times in previous years and wasn't impressed, could never find the T.T. Landlord on, but something has changed and they have started taking pride in their beer. Now I go to this pub every time I am in Soho, its the only place that I can trust to give me a good pint. With 'try before you buy' you cant go wrong.

The Junction Tavern, Kentish Town

This is my favorite pub in London. The management really care about keeping the beer properly, and normally keep three guest ales plus Deuchars IPA. The staff is friendly and efficient. The gastro-part of the pub is separate from the drinking part although you can eat anywhere in the pub. Its an extremely comfortable pub and they also have a beer garden that I use throughout the summer. I have eaten here several times and it has been, with only one exception, outstanding. Often I find myself drinking elsewhere wishing I was here. This is my "10".

The Hop and Berry, Islington

Met some friends here, my second visit to this pub. I knew they carried Timmy Taylors Landlord which I had planned to drink before going to eat at the Vietnamese next door. We lucked into a table to sit at on a very busy night and Brewer's Gold was on, which proved to be even better than the Landlord. We were so enjoying ourselves we decided to eat there. The prices were far too high for me but my friends aren't so skint. I had the venison and it was absolutely terrific. Based on this visit, I will definitely be going back.
