The Shakespeare, Bristol

Have been in a few times recently and really like it. Decent choice of lagers and had a nice pint of Tom Wood's Bomber County. Front and back bar, food looks alright. Plenty of seats, though does get busy.

The Robin Hood, Bristol

Currently closed / for sale. Shame as it is a good little pub.

Cambridge Arms, Redland

Went in on a busy Friday and the service was good. Quite pricey but then that was expected in this part of town. Was drinking ESB and Discovery, both of which were excellent.

The Ship, Bristol

Recently had a refurb and has managed to lose all of its historical character - light wooden floors, booths gone in place of comfy leather seats, swirly carpeted bit etc. And the top of the beautiful old bar has gone. A real shame.

That said, the Doombar and Deuchars IPA were very good and reasonably priced and there is now a decent looking menu of pub food and Portuguese snacks (Portuguese chef).

The Golden Lion, Bishopston

Now owned by Stu who also runs the Old Duke in town. Decent enough pub with a decent selection of beers/cider.

Live music/DJs most nights of the week. Mostly not to my taste but it seems to be doing fairly well.

The Prince of Wales, Bishopston

Incidentally the picture above is the Prince of Wales in St Pauls, not on Gloucester Road

Good pub. Has a decent range of beers and ciders (draught and bottles). Good quality food and the price is just about right. Not a fan when it gets very busy at the weekend but early evenings and lunchtimes are great.

The Hare On The Hill, Bristol

Paul and Dee are off to the Victoria in Clifton apparently. Another great little pub and I'm sure they'll do very well.

The Old Duke, Bristol

I would agree about the staff in here in recent times. I used to know some of the bar staff a few years ago and they were great. The cooler than thou mob seem to have infiltrated unfortunately. Used to have a great smiley, chatty bunch working there. Not anymore. A shame as it has put me off going.

The Hillgrove Porter Stores, Bristol

Friendly bar staff and a great selection of ales. Lovely stuff.

The Hare On The Hill, Bristol

I have recently rediscovered this excellent pub. Four very well kept Bath Ales and they have just got Westmalle on tap. Wonderful. The Sunday night music line up looks good as well.

The Cat and Wheel, Bristol

Have been going here for 2-3 years. Really decent pub. And it is just a pub, no pretensions. Good ciders and beers. Will show most sport on request. Great mixture of clientele and never any trouble.

Recently opened up more of the garden out the back which is good. I'm sometimes put off going down on a Friday because of the live music that can overpower all conversation (if you're not in the garden). And there is pool table, darts, table football, jukebox and quizzer. Can't get bored!
