The Horse and Groom, Mortimer

Came here with the father in law and wife for a meal and some beers. Truly fabulous value food, decent prices and very tasty indeed. Not too fancy ingredients but very well cooked, got the feeling there is a creative chef back there. Beer was good too - nice couple of ales on offer. The place wasn't packed but it was busy and there was good atmosphere. The Horse and Groom is certainly on better form these days.

The Flowing Spring, Playhatch

We went and had a Sunday lunch at the Flowing Spring. It's clearly been tidied up a bit, though without losing any of the cosiness. We took advantage of the Sunday lunch deal, main course and either soup or desert. It was good value and decent food, to the point where we will be coming back sometime to try the main menu. The beer was well kept Fullers fare.

Warm fire, friendly welcome. Good stuff all round.

The Horse and Groom, Mortimer

Recent changes to the interior have split the pub into smaller areas which helps a lot with atmosphere. We had two good meals at reasonable prices (local lamb and veggie option) and came away feeling we'd got good value. Only slight gripe would be only a single ale on tap on this visit. I wouldn't disagree with previous posters but in my view it is improving.

The Fox And Horn, Stratfield Mortimer

Currently shut for a long period now, apparently due to illness of the landlord. This is a shame as the bar is snug, and the food good. Although pricey and the dining room lacks atmosphere.

The Horse and Groom, Mortimer

Re-opened early 2007 under new management. Beer is good - often Spitfire , Black Sheep and London Pride on, plus the usual bottled girls drinks. Drink prices moderate to slightly pricey. When first opened did so with a pretty dodgy chef and high (at least as high as London) food prices. Now though a much better Chef and better priced menu. Decor was redone by new manager and has not yet really 'worn in' but its getting there. Atmosphere along similar lines right now as the clientele returns after a pretty long closure, but again its building back up. Great position with the park opposite and a large garden. Ideal on a sunny weekend.
