The Scott Arms, Kingston

We haven't visited this pub for quite some time, but we are local and would certainly visit again if we started to hear some positive rumours about the Scott.
We have heard that this pubs lease is about to be sold by Punch (who own it) and considering what a financial mess Punch are in - according to the press, it probably won't be long before the pubs freehold is up for sale lease / or no lease so that the liquidators can get their hands on some much needed cash. Yet more turmoil for the Scott !!!
I have noticed that some of the staff have replied to comments on here, so, if any of you read this can you let us Scott lovers know what is going on.

The Reindeer Inn, Ombersley

TRIED THE REINDEER FOR THE SECOND TIME LAST NIGHT AND IT WAS VERY GOOD. DARREN THE MANAGER, AND PETER THE HEAD CHEF & OWNER WERE ON DAYS OFF SO I WAS QUITE DUBIOUS AS TO HOW GOOD IT WOULD BE- BUT PETER OBVIOUSLY HAS A GOOD NUMBER TWO AND THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD, ALTHOUGH THE VEG WAS NOT AS GOOD AS PETER WOULD HAVE DONE IT. I LIKE MY VEG 'AL DENTE'- AS IT WAS ON MY FIRST VISIT, BUT IT WAS A BIT TOO OVERCOOKED FOR ME LAST NIGHT. MAYBE IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO ASK CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY ARE ORDERING "DO YOU LIKE YOUR VEG 'AL DENTE' OR 'WELL COOKED' - JUST A SUGGESTION.
THE ASPARAGUS AND SERRANO HAM SALAD STARTER WAS FANTASTIC (REALLY FANTASTIC), MY DUCK MAIN COURSE WAS LOVELY TOO (VERY SLIGHTLY OVERCOOKED THAN I REQUESTED), AND THE STELLA WAS SUPERB.

The Reindeer Inn, Ombersley

'MONDAY 9th JUNE, 2008'

I'D HEARD AND READ SOME MIXED REVIEWS ON THIS ESTABLISHMENT, AND AS I WAS IN THE AREA AND HUNGRY, THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE IT A SHOT.
I ARRIVED AT c8.30pm AND WANTED A REASONABLY QUICK MEAL BEFORE HEADING HOME - THE SERVICE ALL EVENING WAS EXTREMELY EFFICENT AND REASONABLY QUICK CONSIDERING THEY HAD ABOUT 30 DINERS IN ALL MORE OR LESS AT THE SAME TIME.
I DINE REGULARLY AT A LOT OF THIS ESTABLISHMENTS COMPETITORS, AND WAS PLEASANTLY SUPRISED TO SEE DARREN WHO HAD RUN THE FRONT OF HOUSE SERVICE AT THE NEARBY CROSS KEYS IN OMBERSLEY RUNNING THE FRONT OF HOUSE HERE, I KNEW THAT IF DARREN WAS WORKING HERE THEN THE PLACE CAN'T BE ALL THAT BAD.
FIRSTLY - I HAD ONE OF THE NICEST PINTS OF STELLA THAT I'D HAD IN A VERY LONG TIME....PERFECT.
SECONDLY - I ORDERED A MAIN COURSE BELLY PORK (c 11.95) WHICH WAS COOKED WITH CHILLI, GINGER, PAK CHOI, MUSHROOMS, & 4 PIECES OF PORK CRACKLING ETC... ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS AND A GREAT PORTION SIZE TOO. DON'T CALL ME "SAD" THOUGH, BUT THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE MEAL FOR ME WAS HOW THE VEGETABLES WERE COOKED. I WAS PRESENTED WITH A SMALL SIDE DISH OF SUGAR SNAP PEAS, RED CABBAGE, CAULIFLOWER, AND BROCCOLI - THE CAULI AND BROCC BEING COOKED 'AL DENTE' AND ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT.
I DIDN'T REALLY HAVE TIME FOR ANY FURTHER COURSES, BUT I WILL CERTAINLY GO BACK FOR A 'RETAKE'.
AND FINALLY- AFTER CLEARING MY PLATE COMPLETELY I WENT STRAIGHT TO THE BAR TO SETTLE MY ACCOUNT (AS I HAD TO GET HOME) AND HAD THE HONOUR OF CHATTING WITH PETER WHO IS THE OWNER AND HEAD CHEF, HE KNOWS HIS STUFF, AND DOES IT FROM THE HEART - YOU CAN TELL. SO, I THANKED HIM, PAID MY BILL AND HEADED HOME....SURE TO RETURN.
I FEEL THAT I CAN RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT BECAUSE I SPENT 20 YRS IN THE TRADE UNTIL RECENTLY.... AND I TOO KNOW MY STUFF, AND I AM QUITE HARD TO PLEASE, SO WELL DONE TO ALL AT THE REINDEER.

The Sunray at Osmington, Osmington

Oh Dear we have heard so many poor things recently about this establishment and its new owners but just thought I would check the comments on this site to see whether we should try it again, but blimey, Big Al was treated very poorly- what on earth is going on. There used to be fabulous food here last year, but the owner left and is probably doing well elsewhere, where people appreciate good food. We eat at the Crab Cafe now- try it, it's superb.
This guy Nigel (the owner) we hear was a 'big wig' at the Brewery that used to be based in Weymouth- so surely he should know how to run a good business, and how to treat other human beings with 'RESPECT'- if what Big Al says is true.
Cheerio

The Cross Keys Inn, Ombersley

Fresh and exciting food, very friendly staff, an absolute Gem. Don't get there often but when we do we are never disappointed- oh yes... Timmy Taylor Landlord on draught...hooray!!!
What a fabulous place, a typical oldy worldy traditional Pub- we hope the owners keep it up...please!!!!

Ewe and Lamb, Stoke Prior

WOW- Fantastic.
The food really was superb, and certainly warrants the Michelin Bib Gourmand that this place seems to keep getting awarded year on year.
The fine dining Epicurean Restaurant alongside the Brasserie looks good- but not eaten there yet, but will do.
Superb Wine List, but if you fancy something exotic ask to see the list from the Epicurean restaurant!!
Young staff, but obviously very well trained- they are a credit to this business, and what appears to be a very 'hands-on' manager- called Richard we think, but seemingly in control of whats going on.
Very highly recommended by us, try it!!

The Sunray at Osmington, Osmington

I have just recently moved to the Weymouth area which is so beautiful but lacking any decent food establishments apart from the Crab Cafe and Perrys I am very particular about where I choose to dine. I have been asking local residents and work colleagues about where to eat and I have heard some mixed reviews on the Sunray at Osmington- but I decided to try it myself and make my own judgements- as follows:-We dined there on 02/10/06 with a couple of friends who had come down to visit us and for a Monday night it was quite busy. We had a selection of starters- Ham Hock Terrine, Sweetcorn Chowder, I had Foie Gras which really was exceptional, and our friend only wanted a Prawn Cocktail which was not on the menu- but they made us one especially- now that is superb!!!
We then had a couple of Beef Wellingtons- cooked very rare, a main course Wood Pigeon, and some beautiful fresh fish- Plain Grilled Lemon Sole, and a Red Snapper with a Thai style vegetable stir fry. The only thing that I think some people may not like is that the vegetables are always undercooked- not soggy, I suppose to retain flavour and vitamins/ minerals. I suppose that if you asked for them to cook the veg a little more they would, as they did for us with the Prawn Cocktail- they are very helpful we found. We had a few pints of exceptional St Austall Tribute, and an excellent bottle of South African Chenin Blanc. Our bill came to about 110.00 in the end but it really was superb. We are all a little suprised at some of the other comments about this place on this site, but, everyone to their own. All I can say though is that never believe all comments (just like some newspaper stories) go and judge for yourself. We have booked again for next Saturday and are really looking forward to it.
Best wishes from me to all other food lovers in Dorset.
