Went for a meal here just the other night. Food wasn't so much expensive as just plain bad. Combined with a limited wine list and lucklustre service it would seem to be holding itself out as something that it's not.

Went for lunch here yesterday and got the shock of my life. Despite the beautiful building, friendly staff and our corresponding high hopes, our meals were appalling. And to add insult to injury, it was damned expensive too. Nice place to drop in for a drink but avoid the temptation to order anything from the bar menu. It was a disgrace.

Agreed. The Sunday afternoon cabaret makes this place special.

Not sure if they just renovated, but I didn't find this pub scruffy at all - quite the opposite. It was very nice indeed (although perhaps my definition of scruffy differs from that of the average Primrose Hill resident!) Also found staff helpful and good selection...
Maybe they were just having a good day?

The Greyfriar, Chawton
This gets my vote for worst-run pub I have ever set foot in. After receiving a lecture on the correct sequence for ordering beers (the barwoman disappeared half way through order anyway), we ordered a meal and, in a group of six were served no less than 45 minutes apart. When the people sitting next to us complained about the length of time they were waiting for a mea, they were told that "we only have one oven." Add to that a very watery Guiness, 16-year old girls with colds serving, and you have a recipe for misery. Only reason it does any business at all is because it's opposite Jane Austen's house.
