The Eclipse Inn, Winchester

Great location, wonderful little building. Tried the Ringwood Best and the Flowers Original over lunch. The Ringwood was served a little cold for my liking but apart from that the beers were good. Lunch food was great. Toilets were fairly bad. Overall I will definitely head back there for lunch and a pint if I am in the area again.

The Old Vine, Winchester

Not fantastic if what you are interested in is a quality pint in a traditional boozer, but this place is geared more towards the food. My wife and I picked this place out specifically for our evening meal on a visit to Winchester (with the Black Boy and the Eclipse for the serious ale-drinking) and were delighted with our food. The rib-eye steak I had was the best steak I have had in years. My advice would be to treat this place like a restaurant with a decent ale selection and you will not go far wrong. I would eat there again without a second thought.

The Bishop On The Bridge, Winchester

A real waste. Overpriced food and overpriced beer served up in a pub which, from what I could tell in the light, is decorated some kind of sickly green. I will say that the ESB was fine in terms of quality. The reason this is a wasted opportunity is that it is in such a wonderful location, right on the river. A more varied beer selection (impossible while it is a Fuller's pub) and an intelligent redecoration and this place could be a real gem.

The Black Boy, Winchester

Went out of my way to visit this place on my first trip to Winchester over the bank holiday weekend and was not disappointed. A really quirky and interesting place serving a nice selection of quality beer. There is a rough and ready outside seating area but it is the inside that really makes this place. The decor has to be seen to be believed and there are all kinds of nooks and crannies and interesting places to sit for a good pint. Sampled and Summer Lightning and the Bowman's Quiver, which were both excellent.

The Green, Willesden Green

Sadly, the pub has been faffing around with the menu over the last few months and it now makes a liar out of my earlier review. The menu has gone all fancy and overpriced, making this a much less attractive place to come. Shame.

The Green, Willesden Green

Not a great weekday pub, but a great place to go at weekends. The beer selection is pretty poor: no ales at all. However, the food is absolutely fantastic. Every dish I have had there has been top notch and the omelettes are the best I have ever tasted. A nice place to spend a Saturday or Sunday lunchtime.
