Really Nice food for a Brewars Fayre pub, lovely friendly bar staff and a wide range of Lagers and Wine. Plenty of Soft Drinks available and Children made very welcome with their Kids Activity Packs.

Karaoke every other Saturday night the only redeeming feature. Becks Alcohol Free the same price as a regular Becks put me off straight away.
Dirty looking pub and can be trouble, although their Curry's are quite nice.

What can I say about this pub of which I stumbled upon whilst lost in Oxted? Well, not a lot positive unfortunately. We visited late on a Saturday lunch time, about 2pm. A wide selection of Beers and Lagers promising, and friendly bar staff who were most welcoming.
The square shaped bar was very convenient and allowed us to take our daughter to one side whilst we purchased drinks and sat down at a table. A small Dining area, which felt a little intrusive as there was a party of 8 in there right across the middle.
Working in the pub industry in the past, I could tell this was a fresh food pub so expected a wait on food so we ordered starters of Battered Prawns and some Garlic Bread. I'd love to say how they were but unfortunately after an HOUR the food still hadn't arrived.
Our daughter had had enough by then, and so had I so we decided to pay for our drinks and leave. The one saving grace being that they decided not to charge us for the drinks. Which we appreciated, however have no plans on visiting again. A real shame.

The Downsman, Southgate
I'd like to adjust my rating, having got to know the staff etc, it's actually not a bad pub. Yes it's for locals and it can on the odd occasion kick off but not as often as it used to. Becks Blue is no longer served, in fact no alcohol free lager any more which is a shame. Only 1 pool table now, Dart Board but not seen a quiz night in there for a while. Currys are nice, especially the Chilli Wang Wangs!
