The Shakespeare Tavern, Durham
Superb! What a little gem. Pokey wee rooms - gents toilet floor slopes like the north face of the eiger - some strange locals - it's fabulous!
The only pub we bothered with in Durham once found!
Go see for yourself!
Wonderful

Thought this was a site about 'pubs'. This is not a pub, it's a branch of Ikea!
Too many of the bars in York are like this - stick 'traditional', save money.
(Yes I am old(ish) before you ask!)

The Blacksmiths Arms, Lastingham
What a find! This traditional pub is a gem. Set in a tiny village at the foot of the moors and opposite a beautiful and historic church.
Food outstanding, friendly folk and 3 letting room at reasonable prices.
Go check it out - you will NOT be disappointed!

The York Arms, York
A haven of bliss away from the soccer. Yes, okay, you get the usual type of Sam's drinker in here (i.e. unemployed/heavy drinkers etc.) but they are generally inoffensive.
You can't beat the prices of course!
