The Sun Inn, Hawkshead

Just stayed 2 nights in Hawkshead so had plenty of opportunity to check out the 4 Inns all within 3 minutes walk or less.
Top of my list was the Sun Inn with 3/4 cask ales in good form including Loweswater Gold and Jennings Cumberland Ale.
The staff and locals are friendly and there is a cosy feel to the place with the log fire, pool table and darts.
My second choice was the Red Lion followed by the Kings Arms and Queens Head.

The Chetham Arms, Turton

This pub is now tranformed under new management.
Located in Chapeltown Village, the pub has become very popular with both locals and visitors tgo the area.
The staff are very friendly and the service is excellent.
There are normally 3/4 cask beers on offer and the food is excellent and very reasonably priced.

The Strawbury Duck, Entwistle

I am sorry to report that visitors to 'the Duck' are still experiencing poor service at the bar by the female staff who look weary most of the time.
Priority is given to food orders and those paying their bills.
There should be 3 cask ales on offer but mostly only 2 these days.
This gem of a pub in the Lancashire countryside deserves better and the problems are not unsurmountable.

The House Without A Name, Bolton

What a transformation.
Recently refurbed with a good range of cask ales which supplement the regular Holts and John Smiths bitters.
There is live music Thursdays and Sundays and pub food menu which includes pizzas and curries.
This dog friendly pub with its log fire and friendly staff has once more become a popular local.
It also won the winter local CAMRA award.

The Crofters Arms, Bolton

The pub has been closed for a refurb and reopened early April 2013.
Decor and facilities top class but seems like customers are to pay for this.
The only bitter is John Smiths at a wopping £3.80 a pint.
Lagers and ciders cost even more!
The food menu matches the pricey drinks, fish and chips will set you back £13.00.
It's a shame that this once popular local serving a range of beers and food at very reasonable prices is now beyond the reach of the majority.
